fatehpur sikri

This massive gate clad in red sandstone dominates the wide courtyard of the Jama Masjid (mosque) in the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri built by Mughal Emperor Akhbar in the 14th century. A lengthy fabric stretched from the mosque to the end of the courtyard to protect the bare feet of worshippers from the hot stone floor. This is where these women walked on gracefully while making their way to the exit. I waited for them in order to give a sense of scale to the photograph.
