HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL. The open-air memorial in Berlin dedicated to the murdered Jews during World War II by the Nazis bears a strong resemblance to a cemetery. Consisting of 2,711 concrete slabs (stelae) in varying heights arranged in a grid pattern on a sloping site, they are supposed to represent a system that has lost touch with humanity and reason. It is quite a moving experience to walk around the uneven pathways that give you a sense of disorientation, confusion and uneasiness, the same feeling that the hapless victims must have felt on their doomed journey to the concentration camps.
